Documentary Filmmaker Thomas Sideris Teaches Masterclass to Pennsylvania Students

HARRISBURG, PA — September 12, 2026 — Renowned director and documentary filmmaker Thomas Sideris led an exclusive masterclass on documentary creation for university and college students in Pennsylvania on July 13, 2026.

Organized as part of the annual Summer Camp program by the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg, the session brought together approximately 27 emerging storytellers and academics. Sideris shared his extensive field experience, guiding participants through every stage of the filmmaking process—from initial conceptualization and narrative structuring to visual language, ethical field reporting, and final production.

During the session, Sideris drew upon his rich body of work documenting human rights, forced displacement, and historical memory, giving students a firsthand look at how complex geopolitical issues can be transformed into compelling human-centered cinema.

“Teaching the next generation of storytellers is about showing them how to look beyond the surface,” said Sideris. “Documentary cinema is not just about recording events; it is an act of deep observation, empathy, and active memory.”

The workshop highlights the ongoing international educational collaboration between Thomas Sideris and key institutions in Pennsylvania, following previous educational initiatives and film showcases supported by the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg and Penn College of Technology.
